Inspirational talk - Andrew Patterson

Once again we have the lovely Mr Patterson come in today with a special guess an ex Point Englander Raenan that now attends one of our local schools Tamaki College. They both came in today to talk to us about college and making good decisions. Raenan talked about setting goals and achieving them, Also Raenan's experiment throughout his 4 years in college.

Raenan talked about his experiment going through college and all the changes it made in him. Mr Patterson asked Raenan questions and one of the question was "How did you feel when you first walked through the gates of Tamaki College". His answer was that he felt nervous but at the same time he was learning more and taking big steps towards his learning.

His talk really inspired me as a student going to Tamaki College next year. It gave me more confidence to step up and set a goal for me. Focusing on learning and trying hard was one of the key things Raenan talked about. Raenan set a goal for him and he actually achieved it, as he was announced as Deputy head boy at Tamaki college. That inspires me to set a new goal for myself in the future as i want to become a head girl at Tamaki college.

Personal best!!

Have you achieved your personal best in athletics?Events such as Discus, shot put, sprints, high jump and etc. Personally doing you best would be working your way up and giving everything a try.

There is many different events where you would have to try your personal best, maybe in some events you would have to work harder than before as there is many competitive people to compete against. Working towards a event that you are not good at would make you a lot stronger than other activities.

Staying calm in events would be a great way of concentrating on winning, even if it means you coming last then always keep it humble. It’s not always about coming 1st, 2nd or last, trying your best would still make you a winner.Simply training and focusing would make you better at making it into anything.

Other ways to do your personal best is to keep track of your records, so in the previous years you could keep track of what you come in the year. It will be easier to keep looking back at what you have done best and keep on improving. Improving your best and keep on making goals for yourself. Maybe one day you could become a great Olympics person if you just try your best.
Achieving your personal best, giving anything and everything a try would make you best. Remember doing your personal best can be anything it doesn’t have to involve sports, you could achieve anything anytime meaning Test, school, sports and etc. There are my points of how to do your personal best.

Inspiration talk!

This morning we had a inspiration talk with a special visitor Mr Patterson. He came today to talk to the year 7/8 block about AIM which stands for Aspiration, Inspiration and Motivation. Mr Patterson told us a touching and sad story about a 11 year old boy who gave up his lunch money for two week just to give to a homeless man.

As Mr Patterson talked about being a giver and giving back to people. He told us a story about this young couple he saw at the airport struggling to keep calm 3 children under 5 years old. He thought that by letting them in front of him he would be doing the right thing.

One thing I've learn't from the inspiration talk was that one little thing can change a person's life. From the story about wille and the homeless man I would take that as a great example in life. I would want to do the same and give my lunch money up for a homeless person.

Labour Day!

Do You think labour day is just about winning and giving birth well your wrong, i am going to tell you why New Zealand celebrates Labour day.

Image result for parnell samuelIf you didn’t know New Zealand was one of the first countries in the world to have a 8 hour working day. Samuel Parnell was the man who stood up for the rights of workers. Samuel Parnell thought this was all wrong and decided to do something about it. He worked as a carpenter in a shop, Under one condition the man would accept to work, if he would work 8 hours per day.

Claiming his right, he got the chance to work 8 hours straight. The usual time workers would work, also known as Labour would work for 10 or 12 hours or more. Some people would even work more than 18 hours. Everybody did the same and demanded to have 8 hours of work.

Samuel Parnell got more workmen and other people to support his decision. New Zealand was most likely one of the first countries in the world to have the right of working 8 hours. After visiting the court in wellington the judge finally accepted all New Zealand workers to have the right to work 8 hours.

Well now you know what Labour day is and why it’s celebrated here in New Zealand. What did you think Labour day was about about? Have you ever celebrated Labour day? Do you know what the meaning of Labour day is? Now you know what it means and why it’s very special to us.

Immersion Assembly - Musical Madness

Back to school and as usual we have our annual Immersion assembly. Each team had to explain what they were going to focus on this term, the movies they made had to be based on what music could to make your life better. As we started off with the senior management band, every team that performed had really great points.

Most informative: I was stuck on Team 5 as they had a lot of information about what they were going to focus on this term.Every part they played, showed the emotions they were going through when the music played. Team 5’s focus is on how composers compose music to evoke an emotional response.

Most entertaining: Team 3 was most entertaining because they had more expression and action. There movie was based on them having a normal day with music telling them how they feel. There movie was extremely amusing. It was as if they were talking about their normal life.

What do you want to find out more about:

Throughout this term I would want to find out more about what songs affect me. By the end of this term I want to explain my feelings with the song I listened to and why it affects me.

Area L3

WALT:Find the area of objects

In Maths this week we have been learning about finding the Area of the objects.I have learnt alot of things about finding the area. Check out this presentation to learn more about "Finding the area".

Cross Country!

Bright colours filled up the netball courts. We’ve been preparing this for 2 months and and it’s finally here.Funky wigs and costumes on display. Standing in front of the whole school is really nerve wracking seeing people just stare at you.

It was a hot and beautiful day, seeing the little children run around. After everybody sat down my heart starting racing. As the house captains one by one finished saying their chants “it's time for the 1 girls to run” Mr burt said. With the all the help of the house captains every last person who would come last we would push to try there best.

As time passed it was already time for the year 8 girls to run, as we got to the starting line my heart just started beating fast as if I was running a marathon. Just as we ran through the gate my legs started to hurt and it felt like I was gonna die. People telling me to keep on running gave me more energy to run.

The second lap was here and I was trying my best to not stop and just run the whole thing. The finish line was right ahead and I gave it my all and sprinted to the finish line. I was past the finish line and I was so happy that I finished it. The whole school was being great supporters and also all the parents, I was so blessed that we all had a great day.

My Final Speech

Should students be allowed to wear mufti jumpers in winter?

Decile one schools, with a lot of under privileged students is just the beginning of my argument. Expensive uniforms that is non negotiable for parents, wearing mufti jumpers is just asking for a detention or a warning.

Isn’t it ridiculous that us students are not allowed to wear mufti jumpers at school? Well I think that students should be allowed to wear mufti jumpers in winter because you will not only be cold but you may get sick and for those who can’t afford jackets due to money issues at home. Students have only one way of keeping themself warm and that’s by wearing a mufti jacket or jumper from school.

One of the Parent struggles is trying to afford their own child a jacket for school because of college fees, buying food and paying bills. It’s getting cold and children are still arriving at school with no jumper or jacket. Children end up getting ill and obviously that problem starts when your child doesn’t wear enough warm clothing when they arrive to school.

Parents with money problems is the worst part of this situation, they have problems affording valuable objects and can’t afford a jacket and other things important like this. They then should be allowed to bring a mufti jumper/jacket to school, To keep warm and prevent from getting sick.

Tongan Language Week

As I came to school I had a feeling something good was going to happen. It was tongan language week today and the theme for this week was ‘Fakakoloa Aotearoa “Aki” Ae Nofo, Ai Kainga” meaning Enriching Aotearoa with our family values.

In team 5 we had a lot of amazing talented Tongans in our block. In the time of the team 5 assembly, none of our fluent Tongan speakers wanted to stand up and pronounce the theme. Only one out of heaps of Tongans in our space would say the theme. Mrs Tele’a was really disappointed because hardly any Tongans showed dignity and pride towards their culture.

Thing we learnt during that week was to not be afraid to speak your language. Thankfully throughout the week most of the Tongans improved on getting really useful to speaking their language. A few of our Tongan students in our space gathered a Tongan group to perform a special item on friday. As their lunch times brakes were taken off them to practice for their item, we could hear their amazing haka’s and they also took the opportunity to show pride in their culture. We couldn't wait to finally see what they've done.

The day was finally here and we were all impressed on what they have done and we couldn’t believe what our Tongan students set this whole performance in three days, All their hard work paid off. I learnt a lot of things about their culture and what it means to them.

Over the days they showed more courage and pride in their culture. We taught other to not be afraid of their culture and language and just speak it instead of being scared and afraid, gladly we all had an awesome and amazing week of learning about the Tongan culture.

Speech: Should students be allowed to wear mufti jumpers in winter

Should students be allowed to wear mufti jumpers in winter?

Well I think that students should be allowed to wear mufti jumpers in winter because you will not only be cold but you may get sick and for those who can’t afford jackets due to money issues at home. Immersion Assembly

Can humans survive on other planets? What would it be like? Would it be like living underwater. Protecting earth from dangerous things like asteroids and meteoroids could damage our land and also our world. Everything living on it would be destroyed. Talking about space is all based on what we are focusing on this term in Pt England school.

Most informative Team 4:
In immersion assembly I thought team 4 was most informative. The reason why I think there item was more better than all the other items is because team 4 teachers hooked us on more information about what they are going to study about this term

Most entertaining Team 5:
Today in our immersion assembly I think team 5 was most entertaining. The reason why I thought team 5’s item was most entertaining is because they had more movement and action in their item. I thought they had good information about what team 5 is going to study about this term.

What are you looking forward to finding out about this term: This term I am looking forward to learning about our topic and what it means to me.. Guardians of the galaxy to me means being guardians and good role models to everybody especially towards younger kids and that they would follow and be good role models and guardians to everybody else.

Blog Journal Reflection

What I have enjoyed for the past 2 weeks is being a leader for my school and also having new people come to Point England.

What has been difficult for the past 2 weeks is having new year students join our block.

What is new is having new teachers and new students in our block and school.
