”Let the senior school prize giving begin‘‘ Mr Burt said with devotion. It was our school annual prize giving night. The families and parents were very excited to see our performance and see their child receive an award. As the kapa haka finished with an emotional item,it was time for the year 5&6 class awards to be handed out.   

I think that the year 5 item was cool because they had cool song and amazing dance moves. It was time for the team 4 sports awards which was one of the highlights that I enjoyed.4 or 5 student of team 4 got 3 or 4 awards with trophies.When it was time for the sportswoman and sportsman of the year nominees, I thought that it was a close pick between Jarvan and Kosini because they are both superb at playing sports, but Jarvan took it out and won sportsman of the year.Time for the sportswoman of the year and the closest one was Faioso and Samoa because they both played most sport, but Faioso won the trophy and got sportswoman of the year. The year six item was up next. ‘‘WOOHOO GO Faioso’’ As I shouted when the year 6’s walked up the stage.As the item finished, I think that the year 6 item was the best cause they had very cool songs and amazing dance moves.

It was time for team 5 class awards. ‘‘For 100% attendance Taunese Leitufia’’. ‘‘WOOHOO SHOT NESE’’. Me and friends yelled as loud as we could.We were so proud of Taunese when she got an award. As the class awards went by, me and my friends cheered for when our classmates and other friends got an award.It was time for the year 7’s to do their performance, I was so nervous when I was on stage but as the dance was finishing I felt normal.‘‘YEAHHH GO NESE’’. As the year 8’s walked up stage I felt sad but happy at the same time because this was the year 8’s last prize giving for this year. When Ryan raped to the song it was really cool and awesome. Uli came to the front and sang part of the song to see you again.

As prize giving nearly finished Mrs Burt welcomed a lady from Tamaki College to announce who would get a scholarship to Tamaki College. The people who got scholarships to TC was Taunese,Elizabeth,Promise,Liz U and Marilyn.‘‘ YAYYYY’’ I was so pleased that they got scholarship to TC. Prize giving slightly was finishing and we finished it off by singing our school song. The parents were taking videos and taking photo’s of us when we singing our school song.I’m pleased about myself because I got chosen to be one of our school House captain for 2017.

WALT: Update our self's in current events.

Yesterday John Key resigned as New Zealand prime minister because he said ‘‘ It was time to take a step in his career and spend more time at home with his family. He has spent 10 years including 2016 as leader of the national part.A Prime Minister's duties include presiding over Cabinet meetings, meeting official foreign delegations to Ottawa and answering questions in the House of Commons.

If I was prime minister I care more about homeless, work on what people are getting compared to what other people are getting and also rivers.In the rivers we have to stop polluting the water and take care of the water works.I don’t think that I would do the right maths to figure out the amount of money, for anything that needs to be provided for the river procedure.

If I were prime minister I would make more homeless shelters in New Zealand.In the shelters they would provide food, clothes warmth and much more.I would try my very best to give more jobs to the homeless.All these things can change with a little bit of hope.

Write a brief paragraph explaining the rusting process (why rusting occurs)

When oxygen from the air mixes with water, the iron surface reacts with the oxygen mixed in the water. It form iron oxide - red stuff we call (Rust). The process continues until the water is gone. Other metals corrode in different ways, but only metals with iron in them can rust.

How could you prevent something from rusting?

If a chain on a bicycle rust, the putting oil on will the bike better and will protect the chain from rusting again

Something new I’ve learnt about was that iron, water, and oxygen makes iron rust. Using iron, water, and salt will make iron rust even faster. Using Zinc or paint to protect a iron will not make the iron rust.

What’s the difference between the three states of matter?

Solids can’t be poured like liquid could. (solid)Ice can be melt into water(liquid)	Liquids can change into gas by using  a kettle to boil hot water. Then you can see stream which is gas.	Gas has less space left by atoms so that's why it spreads out more than solid and liquid.

Molecule in a solid, can barely move because all atoms are linked as close. 3 states of matter can change into a different state of matter like (liquid) water changes into (gas)steam (liquid)Water cycle - When a cloud is heavy it lets the water go known as the “rain”. The rain goes down to the ocean and the sun slowly sucks up the water(steam) and slowly make a cloud. Something new I just learnt is that there are 5 states of matter. Solid, Liquid, Gas, Plasma, Be condensates.      Sometimes solids can turn directly into a gas through a process called sublimation.

Word meaning:

What is matter -Matter exists in 3 states, Solid, Liquid, and Gas . Matter is everything, it can be hard, soft, any colour, or even invisible (air). Matter also takes up space or has mass. The molecules in solid can barely move.

• Solid - Solid is one of the 3 states of matter. Solid takes up space and never leaves space.  Ex; wood, tablet, rocks, cool ice, iron. Anything hard. It’s molecule are linked together and are usually packed very close.
• Liquid -

Other words and meanings:

Molecules - A group of atoms combined together representing the smallest fundamental unit of a chemical compound that take part in a chemical reaction

Atoms - The smallest particle of a chemical element that can exist.

Plasma - Colourless watery fluid of blood and lymph containing no cells and in which for example plasma make stars and sun, lightening, the solar winds and more.

Matter - Matter is anything that takes up space and has mass which is weight.

Humid - Humid is when their is high level of water in the atmosphere.

Condensation - Condensation means when water collects droplets on a cold surface when humid air is in contact with it.

Sublimation - Sublimation is when anything solid turns into a gas without first becoming liquid, When the surface layer of snow or ice turns into fog or steam without melting.

Evaporation - The act of turning from a liquid to gas.

What is water made out of? H2O (Hydrogen 2 Oxygen) Water is made out of Hydrogen where there is only 2 atoms where in Oxygen only has 1 atom

The students of Room 4 wanted to find out what colour of bird feeders birds preferred. FIll our the table below thinking of which variables you would make independent, dependent and controlled.

This term we are learning about Science! For our experiment we are experiencing how long does a burger take to mole or age, The step are:First the steps are - Question about the experiment that you are going to do, Second Step - Is the Hypothesis, A Hypothesis is where you think what is gonna happen, Third step - The equipment is everything that you need for the experiment, Fourth step - The method is explain how you did it or how you are going to do it. As you can see I have done a presentation following the steps. Now I have to watch if the burgers will rot.

Reflection about Term 3

Introduction -

Becoming a year 8 is going to be harder than I thought because the teacher are all going to be depending on us to be good role models for next year. What I liked about this year was how Mrs Tele’a would always put us on Re - think for coming late to school, not bring your P.E tops and being bad in class.

Highlights / Memories  -

My favorite highlights for this term would be about learning Te Reo, playing sports  

And learning in class. Some memories that I remembered about this term would be how we had cross country which I came 4th in, fitness everyday and the rotations when the year 8 go to tech.                    

Funny moments -  

My funny moments for term 3 would be about how Mrs Tele’a would always tell us jokes in class. Also when cameo tried to kick the soccer ball but instead she did the splits   

Goals for next term -  

My goals for next term would be to write more better stories and use different words, solve my work out using my knowledge and to also read more books at home. My goal for next term would also be finish it off properly.    

Hiwi the kiwi

Mark the founder of Hiwi the Kiwi, came to Pt england school with his lovely wife Chrissy. They were explaining about how we need to keep our birds safe and we need to be water safety. Hiwi the kiwi announced that they would be teaching us why we need to keep our areas clean.

Hiwi the Kiwi was entertaining and inspiring us about wearing life jacket around water. He also sang us a song about saving our fish and feeding our families.Mark and Chrissy have been married for 40 years and have a great relationship.They sing a lot of songs when they visit school around New Zealand.

Mark told us to keep our birds safe by not littering and pick up rubbish even if it’s not your’s. A can or a plastic bag can end up killing five hundred birds and fish every year. Sea birds don’t really care about what’s in the sea they just fly down and think it’s fish. When you go fishing you always need to take like a water gun to scare the birds away.When the birds dive down when you are fishing they want to try and take the fish away but they don’t know that the hook is in the fish.

When mark told us about some of the stories like about how two men tried to think they were all that but actually were scared, I was really hooked into this one he said ‘’ to always wear life jacket when you are in the water or fishing’’.   

I really enjoyed this show because it has taught me heaps of things that I don’t know and maybe I can go fishing in the future with my family.

Narrtive writing

This is my Olympic narrative writing that I have been working on. You can read my story above or underneath. My narrative writing is about Usian Bolt, but in my story his name is Bolt. 

It was the 2016 Olympics which was held in Rio. In the Maracana stadium, before the women's  pole vault had just started the men’s 100m final race was next.

There were 8 competitors battling for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. When they said ‘’ the race is starting in 25 minutes’’ he was really nervous.He said to himself ‘’ I have trained for this day don’t give up yet’’ said Bolt. Everybody to the starting line.

As he walked to the starting line Bolt got more nervous and didn’t want to do this anymore. Something came to his head. He was thinking about how he knew that he wasn’t going to come first but still tried his best. Also his family would be so proud of him.

When he crossed the finish line he felt more better just after knowing he tired and didn’t want to give up. When he heard that he came 4th, he was so sad but happy that he did his best. But he heard over the speaker that one of the competitors was disqualified because USA Trayvon Bromell went before all the others. So that means that Bolt came 3rd and he was glad that he made the top 3.
